Description

Allopregnanolone is a progesterone metabolite devoid of any progestational activity. Acts as a potent ligand of GABA-mediated Cl^- uptake in synaptosomes more effectively (100- to 1,000-fold) than benzodiazepines or barbituates. In dose-dependent manner, allopregnanolone causes a rapid increase in Ca²⁺ influx.
