Description

Aminoethoxyvinyl glycine hydrochloride (AVG) is a potent inhibitor of ethylene synthesis in plants thought to act at the level of 1-aminocyclopropanecarboxylic (ACC) synthase. It is thought that AVG is a fermentation metabolite that inhibits endogenous production of ethylene in plant tissues. Ethylene has been shown to affect plant processes such as fruit maturation, ripening and abcisssion. Inhibitors of ethylene synthesis such as AVG, silver thiosulfate and 1-methylcyclopropene could be of interest to researchers concerned with plant physiology.
