Description

β-carotene can be classified as an antioxidant due to its inhibition of radical initiated peroxidation in vitro. β-carotene appears to act as either a prooxidant or an antioxidant depending on the cellular environment. It has been shown to reduce the incidence of many cancers, with the exception of lung cancer for which it enhances the incidence.
