5,6-Epoxy-13-cis Retinoic Acid is a metabolite of 13-cis-Retinoic acid with an epoxide on the cyclohexene portion of the compound. 5,6-Epoxy-13-cis Retinoic Acid has been identified as a metabolite of hydroperoxide-dependent cooxidation of 13-cis-Retinoic acid by microsomal and purified prostaglandin H synthase. This metabolite was also identified in cultured human keratinocytes applied with 13-cis-Retinoic acid, and pretreatment with antioxidants decreased its formation, indicating that 5,6-Epoxy-13-cis Retinoic Acid formation involves peroxyl radicals interacting with prostaglandin H synthase.
