Description
12(S)-HHT is known to inhibit human platelet aggregation. It has been shown to stimulate the production of prostacyclin, an eicosanoid that exerts control over inflammation, immunity, and acts as a central nervous system messenger. 12(S)-HHT is metabolized by 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase to 12-KHT in human erythrocytes. It is also useful as a UV chromophore, and can be used in this manner to measure the metabolism of arachidonic acid via the cyclooxygenase pathway, and other cyclooxygenase activity.
