Description

15-Keto-prostaglandin E2 is biosynthesized via 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase, and has been shown to be 1.3 times more potent than Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in relaxing guinea pig trachea. This metabolite of PGE2 did not show any significant activity in other systems used to gauge PGE2 activity; however, it is difficult to distinguish in vivo the proportions of PGE2 and its metabolites that are performing biological function throughout the organism - these metabolites might play important roles in some biochemical pathways, and are therefore of interest to researchers.
