Description

1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene (TMB) is a compound that is predominant in the Chinese variety of roses. TMB is produced in a three-step methylation process beginning with the precursor molecule phloroglucinol, and its two derivatives: 3,5-dihydroxyanisole and 3,5-dimethoxyphenol by O-methyltransferases. Scent volatiles are localized in both epidermal layers of rose petals and emitted from there.
