Description

Akt Inhibitor X is a cell permeable, reversible, and selective inhibitory phenoxazine that suppresses the kinase reactivity of Akt by inhibiting its phosphorylation. In addition, studies show that Akt Inhibitor X deters IGF-I-stimulated nuclear translocation of Akt in Rh1 cells and also suppresses the growth of Rh1, Rh18, and Rh30 cells. Akt is a vital component of the cell survival pathway, functioning in the resistance to apoptosis and improving communication between cells that are damaged. Inhibition of Akt by Akt Inhibitor X via inhibiting phosphorylation of the downstream targets, mTOR, p70S6 kinase, and S6 ribosomal protein, results in greater apoptosis and a decrease in cell signaling. Furthermore, minimal inhibitory effects are seen on pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase isozyme 1 (PDK1), phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI 3-K), and SGK1.
