5(S)-HEPE is produced from tissue homogenates via 5-lipoxygenase catalyzed oxidation of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The biological activity is poorly documented and it remains to be determined whether this activity differs substantially from that of the eosinophil chemoattractant 5(S)-HETE.
